Police probe after body is found in woods

Police have launched a probe following the discovery of human remains in Fife woodland.

Members of the public discovered the remains of what is believed to be a man in Devilla Forest near Kincardine, at around midday on Sunday.

He is believed to have lain there for several weeks or even months.

Investigations are ongoing in a bid to establish his identity and the circumstances surrounding his death.

Anyone with information they believe to be useful has been urged to come forward immediately.

Detective Chief Inspector Scott Cunningham said: “The death of this person is currently being treated as unexplained, pending further investigation and examination.

“Identifying this person is my main priority, therefore I am appealing to members of the public who may not have seen a relative, friend or neighbour over the past few weeks or months and believe they may have known or frequented this area to please contact the police.”

Mr Cunningham said the man wore glasses and was wearing outdoor clothing including a blue, short-sleeved Kalenji T-shirt, grey trousers with black patches on the knees and black Quechua walking shoes.

A black and red rucksack was also found.

“We are also keen to speak to members of the public who remember seeing anyone going into the Devilla Forest in the past few weeks or months, as this may help us with identifying this person,” the DCI added.

“If you have any information that can assist with our inquiries then please contact police immediately.”
