Cross-country cycle in aid of Cutty Sark Virtual Museum
A group of cyclists will begin a 160-mile journey from Johnshaven to Oban on Friday, raising money for a new museum.
Johnshaven men Ronan Littlejohn and Gary Thomson are supporting the Cutty Sark Museum Project, which celebrates the Inverbervie birthplace of ship designer Hercules Linton.
In August they completed a sponsored cycle from Inverbervie to Dumbarton, where the Cutty Sark was built and launched in 1869.
For this journey, they will be joined by local cyclist Graham Farr and support driver Steven Paton.
Ronan and his friends have raised a four-figure sum so far.
They will be waved off at 8am by Dave Ramsay, director of Mearns Heritage Services, which manages the museum project.
Mr Ramsay said: “Their training, preparations and enthusiasm for this challenge are really appreciated, and through the efforts of Ronan, Gary, Graham and Steven, will enable further funds to be raised, to complete the final stages of the Cutty Sark Virtual Museum.
“We were fortunate to have a great start to the project through generous funding from Fotheringham Property Developments in Gourdon, and what Ronan and Gary have done is to take this sponsorship forward to help us complete and launch the project by November.”
They will head for Comrie, finishing the second leg on Saturday.
