Double-facing by unionists

- Ken Clark. 335 King Street, Broughty Ferry.

Sir, - With the usual fanfare which, oddly, only ever accompanies Scotland’s revenue and spending figures, unionists go through their bizarre yearly ritual of trumpeting how poorly Scotland’s economy fares under Westminster rule.

Allan Sutherland, (August 30) resorts to the Gordian Knot of Greek mythology to illustrate his point.

This is appropriate since Scotland’s alleged deficit is one of the many myths employed by Westminster in order to keep Scotland tethered to that hapless establishment.

When it comes to Martin Redfern’s letter (September 1) the mythological labyrinth of Crete may be applied.

Mr Redfern wrongly attributes the labyrinthine creative accountancy of Whitehall numbers to the Scottish Government, yet no truly separate Scottish economic figures are made available to us.

In 2016, David Cameron stated that Norway’s economic

health is entirely due to having a population of over five million, the arithmetical logic being that their assets go further.

Meanwhile, Scots are constantly told that our economic ill health is the result of having a similar sized population of over five million. Too wee apparently.

This is an all-tootypical unionist ability to face in two directions at once, worthy of the Roman god Janus.
