R&A Autumn meeting

Three past captains featured in yesterday’s draw as the R&A Autumn Meeting moved into its second day. Graham Simmers played with Wilson Sibbett, while Gavin Caldwell was paired with Robert Webb and Sandy Dawson with fellow Australian Lew Draper. All are now through to Round 3 of the competition. Captain-elect Bruce Mitchell had another long match in which he and playing partner John Clappison eventually fell victims to South Africans Ian Sinton and Clive Tasker at the 21st Hole. Today will see the last nine matches of Round 3 completed in the morning and all of Round 4 (last 32 pairs) will then follow in the afternoon. Between these will be Round 1 of the Royal Sydney Plate, for those beaten in Round 1 of the Calcutta Cup, or Round 2 if originally in receipt of a bye. The Plate is also played over the New Course.
