Cases calling at sheriff court
A 54-year-old Angus man has been fined after admitting spitting at a fellow motorist in a supermarket parking space row.
Austin Keggie, of Archies Park, Forfar, was said to be “embarrassed and ashamed” by the December incident at Morrisons in Arbroath.
The court heard Keggie was in the car park around 5.30pm when he became involved in a confrontation with another man.
Defence solicitor Brian Bell said: “He regrets what happened.
“It is three years since his last conviction, but prior to this it was shoplifting and dishonesty.
“It seems out of character for him to behave in this way.
Sheriff Jillian Martin-Brown fined Keggie £135. Also at Forfar: John Strathdee, 47, of Newton Avenue, Arbroath, was fined a total of £300 after admitting possessing cannabis and producing the drug at a house in Elm Hill, Arbroath, in November last year.
The court heard police had attended the property following the unexplained death of the accused’s partner.
Strathdee, who pleaded guilty to the offence by letter, was searched and officers discovered a bag of cannabis, worth £20, on him.
They then went into a bedroom where a tent with four medium-sized cannabis plants, along with lighting and heating equipment was found.
The plants had a value of between £700 and £2,000.
