Dark Blues needing repeat of shock win

Dundee boss Neil McCann promised his team would have agoat Ibrox on Saturday against Rangers.

However, that was easier said than done against Pedro Caixinha’s team who fully deserved their comfortable victory.

It would be fair to say that this Dundee side is still a work in progress – there were only three survivors from the last Dark Blue XI that visited Govan in November of last year – Scott Bain, Cammy Kerr and Kevin Holt.

Seven summer signings started on Saturday in Glasgow in what was an incredibly-youthful line-up.

Whether more seasoned campaigners such as Darren O’Dea and Paul McGowan, who were on the bench or others such as James Vincent, who was left out of the squad altogether, would have made a difference is a moot point.

What is certain though is that Dundee are still without a league victory after five matches, are bottom of the Premiership and simply have to pick up a win and soon, which again will be easier said than done.

They face high-flying St Johnstone next weekend before confronting the Celtic juggernaut in the League Cup.

There is then a trip to Rugby Park to face fellow strugglers Kilmarnock followed by a meeting with Hearts at Dens at the end of this month.

The last time Dundee played Saints at Dens, in December, they were surprise 3-0 winners – they could certainly do with another similar shock result on Saturday.
