Scotland sees weather warning as storm to hit

- KirsTy mcinTosh

Courier Country is on course to avoid the worst of an autumnal storm set to hit parts of Scotland today.

A yellow weather warning covering the Scottish Borders and a large swathe of northern England has been issued, with the 800-mile-wide tempest bringing hurricaneforce 75mph wind gusts and heavy rain.

While Angus, Dundee, Fife and Perth and Kinross are expected to experience wet and windy weather over the coming days, experts say it will not be as extreme as further south.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: “The weather warning is just into the Borders of Scotland.

“Your area is going to be blustery but the lower pressure is further to the south.

“It will be wet and windy but not nearly as bad as in England.

“As the low pressure moves through on Wednesday it will leave behind a day of blustery showers and some cloud cover as well.

“Thursday will still seem showery and a bit blustery but with dry spells, but with some cloud about it will appear quite dark.

“Into the weekend it will be starting to get a bit more settled and dry.”

The Met Office has warned today’s storm could lead to power cuts and damage to trees and perhaps buildings.

Experts have also warned travellers to expect longer journey times, with restrictions on roads and bridges and possible flooding on the transport network.
