Sky takeover bid faces full probe

Rupert Murdoch’s £11.7 billion bid to take full control of Sky is to be referred to the Competition and Markets Authority for further investigation.

Culture Secretary Karen Bradley has been assessing thousands of responses following a consultation about the proposal from 21st Century Fox.

Ms Bradley confirmed she intends to ask the CMA to conduct a full probe on the grounds of media plurality and added she is also minded to refer on the grounds of “genuine commitment to broadcasting standards”.
