Criminal matters heard at Forfar

Cases heard before Sheriff Gregor Murray at Forfar Sheriff Court yesterday included:

Kieran Davidson, 27, of Viewmount, Forfar, admitted assaulting Michael Smith in the town’s Post Office in East High Street on March 29 last year.

He admitted grabbing hold of him, pulling him to the ground, punching him on the head and repeatedly stamping on his body, all to injury.

Sheriff Murray imposed a one-year community payback order with 220 hours of unpaid work.

The sheriff told Davidson: “Anyone who does what you did in a public place, namely a post office, can go to jail.

“But having regard to your limited record and your early plea, there is an alternativ­e.”

A young motorist caught driving at speeds of up to 100mph has been ordered to appear personally in the dock.

Aaron Riddell, 23, of John Allan Place, Arbroath, admitted driving carelessly and at excessive speed on July 16 on the A92 Dundee to Arbroath road.

The court heard the accused, who pled by letter, was travelling at speeds up to 100mph.

Sentence was deferred to September 28 for his personal appearance.

Karl Arron Simpson, 27, of Lowson Avenue, Forfar, admitted shopliftin­g at the town’s B&M store on July 1. Sentence was deferred to October 26 for other matters.
