Contemporary... and coming soon to Angus
Did you know there is a core of creativity in Angus aiming to inspire and ignite creative minds? In anticipation, the displays in Angusalive Visual Arts spaces are ready to invite you to explore.
Visual arts officer Gill Ross explains: “Galleries have a space and place in the hearts of everyone and I am excited about the vibrant contemporary artists joining our autumn and winter exhibitions this year.
“Visitors can marvel at our wide spectrum of visual art on offer across seven gallery spaces – much in tune with the changing landscape of Angus as it captures audiences in both traditional and present forms.”
Gill invites you to firstly pop in to Angusalive’s Brechin Town House Museum to view the local landscape as captured in abstract form and grasp an insight into the origins of blueprints or cyanotypes, with a new collection of work from Scottish artists and long-standing friends Hetty Haxworth and Kit Martin, running until the end of this month.
Hetty’s series of monoprints document the movement of light over the Aberdeenshire landscape, marking time amid the flux in the scenery, capturing moments in her colourful images.
Kit makes use of the cyanotype process and has been working with the zoology collection in Bell Pettigrew Museum at St Andrews University.
Continue your cultural journey and visit Angusalive’s Meffan Museum and Art Gallery in Forfar, better known as the Meffan, to enjoy the contemporary artworks of Michael Visocchi.
The work of the Kirriemuir artist reflects his vision of landscape on the natural and man-made countryside.
Michael’s Length x Breadth exhibition responds to the landscape and the built environment in his minimalist sculptures.
His work is being shown until September 30.
Following on from this exhibition, award-winning Scottish visual artist Kirsty Lorenz debuts her new collection Floresce at the Meffan from October 7 to November 4.
A selection of her works will then be showcased at Angusalive’s Montrose Museum from November 11 to December 16.
Pop along to local artist Brian Petrie’s Paintings and Stoorcatchers at the newly refurbished gallery space at Carnoustie Library from October 18-28.
All exhibitions can be viewed during museum opening hours, Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm.
