Son of Dubawi worth backing at Doncaster

Simcock’s charge is two from two at the South Yorkshire track

SHEIKHZAYEDROAD can make it back-to-back wins in the Doncaster Cup.

David Simcock’s charge is two from two at the South Yorkshire track and has posted some creditable efforts in defeat so far this campaign, making good late headway in the Lonsdale Cup last time out to finish fourth.

Although he has a few lengths to find with Montaly on that form, the son of Dubawi may just be coming into his own as we approach the autumn, a time of year which proved fruitful for him last season.

The eight-year-old took this race by the narrowest of margins 12 months ago before going on to land the Long Distance Cup on Champions Day, and has proven himself to be effective on soft ground.

Although his trainer is not exactly in red-hot form, this does not look as tricky as some of the races Sheikhzayedroad has contested so far this season.

Heartache can regain the winning thread in the Wainwrights Flying Childers Stakes.

Clive Cox’s speedball was most impressive when sprinting clear of the field in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot before disappointing in the Prix Robert Papin in France last time out.

It has since transpired the daughter of Kyllachy pulled a muscle during that outing and, given the winner went on to land the Prix Morny next time out, it does not appear to be a bad run after all.

The booking of Ryan Moore is an obvious positive and, so long as the ground is not too soft for her, Heartache can make the most of her fillies’ allowance and take this fivefurlong Group Two for her enthusiastic owners.

Meanwhile, SPUD looks worth following in the Supporting British Stallions Ebf Novice Stakes at Chester.

At Sandown, BLAZE OF HEARTS is capable of rewarding punters in the Directorship Handicap.
