Perthshire opens its diverse larder

-

Celebrating food and drink right on the doorstep throughout this month, the Great Perthshire Picnic is a month-long food and drink festival taking place across Perthshire.

There is something wonderfully heartwarming about lots of people coming together to socialise and eat together.

In our fast paced, hectic lives, it can become all too easy to snack on the go, eat ready-meals from your knee and scoff down liquid calories in the form of an energy drink.

Last year Perthshire residents and visitors alike all enjoyed the inaugural Great Perthshire Picnic (GPP) and following its rip-roaring success, the second outing for this wonderful event looks set to be even bigger and better.

The brainchild of Perth’s leading social enterprise, Giraffe Trading, ‘the Picnic’ as it has come to be known has secured the involvement of a whole host of Perthshire foodie businesses so that we can all join in a huge month-long celebration.

Championing the best local produce and home-grown talent you’re going to find events as diverse as Perthshire’s local larder itself.

From street food to gin tasting, breadmaking to fish-trying, our advice is to invest in a pair of elastic-waisted trousers, tuck in your bib and get out there.

Giraffe Trading CEO Gareth Ruddock has been overwhelmed by the involvement of local businesses and chefs. Here is what he had to say when we caught up with him.

“Nationally and internationally, Perthshire is regarded as being a food and drink heaven – we have such an array of producers all full of passion and dedication. We are pleased to be working with lots of these wonderful producers, distillers, brewers, chefs and more to deliver an amazing event for 2017.”

All in all, it is set to be a delicious month. Keep an eye on the Perthshire Picnic website which is packed full of all the events championing the best local produce and home grown talent plus details of fantastic foodie deals and offers.
