Stars reeling after sheffield hit goal trail

-

Dundee Stars forward Jimmy Jensen continued his scoring purple patch last night – but his strike wasn’t enough to prevent Omar Pacha’s side losing 8-2 in an Elite League clash at Sheffield Steelers.

Stars, who beat Fife Flyers 7-5 at the weekend, were unable to build on that morale-boosting victory as they were overpowered and outshot.

Dundee were 5-0 down after the first session as Steelers cut through their defence.

The blitz began after three minutes when Colton Fretter put the Steelers ahead and Juha Koivisto soon made it 2-0.

Fretter was on the mark again and the Stars were left stunned as number four came on the power play on the quarter-hour mark through Mathieu Roy.

Brady Ramsay added a fifth as Stars were outshot 22-5 in the session, an indication of hosts’ dominance as they sought the win which would send them top of the league.

Malcolm Gould opened Stars’ account after 28 minutes but two minutes later it was 6-1 thanks to a John Armstrong strike.

Swede Jensen – who hit three against Fife – added a second for Dundee three minutes into the final session.

Andersson and Marc-olivier Mimar set up the power play chance which came when Steelers received a bench minor for having too many men on the ice.

Dundee’s Riley Stadel and Robert Dowd were handed five minutes major penalties for fighting and Stadel also received a two minute penalty for crosschecking.

Steelers then claimed a seventh and Jonas Westerling completed the comfortable win with an eighth.
