Lochee hold on to go top

-

Lochee United had to survive a final few nervy minutes before claiming the win over Kennoway Star Hearts that takes them to the top of the table.

Ahead after 22 minutes through Conor Birse, the home side added a second thanks to a fine individual effort from Grant Lawson.

Early in the second-half, Dougie Cameron converted a free-kick to apparently seal victory.

However, Matty Gay’s second from a penalty with seven minutes left gave Hearts a lifeline.

But a Reece Ritchie stoppage time strike soothed any jangling Bluebell nerves.

Meanwhile, Dundonald Bluebell are up to fifth after the narrowest of victories at home to Sauchie.

But they could not have left it any later, Lewis Mckenzie firing a stoppage time winner for the game’s only goal.

Broughty boss Jim Finlayson’s era started with a narrow win over Newtongrange Star at Whitton Park.

Despite the game being decided by Kevin Milne’s only goal of the game, Finlayson was duly satisfied.

He said: “It was a big improvement from what I witnessed the previous week and the lads worked really hard and fully deserved to win.”

Forfar West End slumped to a fifth straight home defeat after losing by the odd goal in three to Camelon.

Goalless at the interval, goals after 55 and 70 minutes put the visitors two in front with a Matty Reynolds strike five minutes from time all the hosts could muster.
