Accies take top spot after seeing off High

-

Arriving at Mayfield second in BT National 1, Edinburgh Accies left as leaders having beaten Dundee High Rugby 38-21.

Dundee opened the scoring with a Kieran Scoular penalty, Accies hit back with a try from Robert Lovett converted by Richard Mill, something he did with awesome regularity all afternoon, then Scoular cut the lead to a point with his second penalty. Neil Armstrong grabbed Accies’ second and although Scoular pulled back a third penalty, James Pearce’s try and the inevitable Mill conversion took Accies 21-9 ahead.

A spell of intense Dundee pressure brought a penalty try before the break but they trailed 21-16 at half time.

Accies struck again with a Mill penalty, then Matt Couper clinched the bonus point and although David Mcginn pulled one back for Dundee, the capital side had the last word with Jordan Thomson’s try, Mill completing a perfect afternoon with the boot.

Kirkcaldy recorded a good win over GHK in BT National 2 at Beveridge Park.

The lead changed hands constantly although in the early stages it looked as though GHK were going to run away with it.

Tries by Fraser Gosse and Blair Forsyth, with Brian Campbell converting the first, took the visitors 12-0 ahead, Finlay Smith got Kirkcaldy on the board with a penalty and Robin Coates had another try for GHK before Kirkcaldy ran in tries from Dayle Turner and Greg Wallace to roar back into the game and take a 22-17 lead into the break.

Matt Henry crossed early in the second half with Finlay Smith converting a penalty try and adding four penalties.

Danger was lurking for Howe of Fife at Duffus Park, taking on Peebles but they handled it perfectly and collected their second five pointer in successive weeks with a 26-20 win.

Cammy Gray, Chris Mann and Duncan Mcintyre had first half tries, Gray converted two then did the business with his own second half strike. Alan Milne had a first half try for Peebles which Greg Raeburn converted, Steve Stoddart added a second after the break, Raeburn again converted and slotted two penalties.

In BT National 3 Perthshire failed to prosper yet again at North Inch where Glasgow Accies ran out fairly comfortable 33-15 winners.

Jamie Miller had a first half try converted by Ian Bearden who slotted a second half penalty and converted Jon Armitt’s try.
