Bad day for local sides

SUPER league: Dundonald only Courier Country winners

- Peter rundo

It was a bad day for Courier Country clubs.

The only winners were Dundonald Bluebell, Gregg Meikle’s strike after 38 minutes proving decisive at Bo’ness.

Broughty Athletic were the only other side to avoid defeat, but let a two-goal lead slip against Broxburn Athletic at Whitton Park. Debutant Chris Liversedge, signed from Coupar Angus, and Stuart Mcconnachie were their scorers.

Saturday morning leaders Lochee United slipped to fourth after a disappointing defeat at Newtongrange Star.

Chasing down a Kyle Lander goal after three minutes, Bluebells had the majority of possession but never really tested the home keeper.

Penicuik regained top spot with a narrow win over visitors Forfar West End.

The decider came from Lambert Kateleza 18 minutes from the end.

Title favourites Bonnyrigg Rose cruised to a 4-0 win over Carnoustie.

They were two up at the interval thanks to Deans Hopkins and Ross Gray. Pat Martin then missed a penalty for the Gowfers.

Further goals followed from Mark Mcconnell and Lewis Turner.

After a 2-1 home defeat by Linlithgow Rose, Kennoway Star Hearts are still searching for their first top-flight win.

Tommy Coyne put the visitors ahead on 27 minutes, with Owen Ronald doubling it with 19 minutes left.

Matthew Gay got a late consolation counter for Hearts, who could consider themselves a shade unlucky to lose.

Jeanfield Swifts went down narrowly at Camelon.

They were behind after eight minutes and lost a second midway through the second half. Jamie Reid reduced the leeway, and Swifts twice came close to rescuing a point.

Hill of Beath were disappointing as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat at Sauchie.

Haws had a couple of chances before conceding an own goal just before the break.

The Fifers’ fate was sealed by a converted penalty with 15 minutes left.
