Tayport make hosts pay

-

Tayport took three points at Arniston Rangers with a 2-1 victory.

The home side played for an hour with 10 men and finished with nine. Dale Reid scored after 19 minutes. Callaghan converted a penalty after 35 minutes, but four minutes later was red-carded for an off-the-ball clash.

Gary Sutherland’s winner came in 65 minutes.

Kirrie Thistle edged out Dunbar at New Countess Park for the new management team to claim their first victory. The only goal was John Farquharson’s 65th-minute penalty for an offence that reduced the hosts to 10 men.

St Andrews United survived a lastminute penalty miss to come home from Bathgate Thistle with a point.

For long spells Saints had the upper hand, but although Scott Lawrie gave them the lead after 24 minutes, it was cancelled by a Stuart Mcleod penalty

But the main subject of discussion after the match was the performance of the referee, especially after sending off Paul Quinn for the injury-time penalty which Shaun Hunter saved.

A Paul Blackwood double earned Downfield a point at Whitburn.

The home side got off to a great start with a second-minute goal from Graeme Taylor, but were behind by the 10th minute thanks to Blackwood’s brace.

Gary Brass scored from the spot to level, and only two fine saves by Daryl Clarkson ensured the Spiders shared the spoils.

Musselburgh stayed top of the table after their 3-2 win over Glenrothes.

Declan O’kane fired them in front after 10 minutes and Stephen Mcdonald made it two on 28 minutes.

Within two minutes Glens reduced the leeway with a Lee Celentano penalty, but Matti King added a third shortly before the break.

At that stage only the heroics of Glens keeper Jack Small prevented the game being beyond the Fifers

In a better second half, Celentano converted a second spot-kick on the hour mark for the Glens, but that was as much as they could muster.

Thornton suffered their heaviest defeat of the season, going down 3-0 at Dalkeith.

Slack defending enabled Blake Wales to give the hosts a seventh-minute lead.

Shaun Keatings’ was unlucky not to level with a shot that smashed against the upright.

Instead, they fell two behind after 27 minutes when poor marking let John Hall in for the second

There was more bad luck when Daniel Mcnab’s free-kick rebounded off the post early in the second half.

When Dean Whitson smashed in Thistle’s third, it game over.
