United slump in second half

-

ST MIRREN 2 DUNDEE UNITED 1

A second-half slump by United saw Saints come from behind to claim victory at the Paisley 2021 Stadium last night.

From the outset the visitors looked the more threatening side, and took the lead 10 minutes from the interval.

Neat footwork on the right by Logan Chalmers gave him space to deliver a low cross which Joe Piggott slotted home.

But after all that United had Jake Davidson to thank for going in still ahead after he brilliantly headed a Darryl Duffy effort over the bar.

Saints scored in 65 minutes, Cameron Macpherson’s curler from an acute angle going in via the underside of the bar.

With 18 minutes left United were desperately unlucky not to regain the lead. Jordan Hornby whipped in a free-kick from which Piggott sent in a powerful volley which David Wilson parried and the ball somehow spun up and clipped the bar.

With seven minutes left Saints scored the winner. Jordan Kirkpatrick hit a stunning first-time 30-yarder which came back off the bar and the hosts’ trialist netted the rebound.

Dundee United: Donaldson, Ritchie, Hornby, Allardice, Davidson, Trialist, Chalmers, Thomas, Piggott, Fraser (Taylor 46), M Smith. Unused subs: Reekie, Inglis, Glass, Dailly, Appere, Mcmeekin.
