TEALING. President Mrs A Stewart welcomed members to the institute’s 92nd birthday party with a meal at the Mill, Lochlands, Forfar. The birthday cake was cut by Mrs J Donaldson and vice-president Mrs S Forbes.

President Diane Holme welcomed members in this the group’s centenary year and introduced John Blackie of Heritage Gardens who spoke about what led him to work in horticultu­re before explaining how gardens became so varied once the intrepid Victorian plant collectors discovered how to transport plants successful­ly from all round the world. President Helen Mitchell welcomed members and introduced Jim Cormie who gave an illustrate­d talk about the town of Cognac in France, which is renowned for its brandy. President Kate Hamilton introduced John King, who spoke about his son-in-law Tim Peake’s time spent in space at the Internatio­nal Space Station, about all the preparatio­ns that had to be done and how the family members were invited to go to watch the launch of the space ship. President Elspeth Campbell welcomed members and introduced the coordinato­r of P&K recycling services, Vivien Milford, who explained the things we should and should not be putting into our different bins.
