Artists urged to apply for award

-

Talented Scottish artists are being urged to apply for an annual arts award that has taken previous recipients around the world.

The 2018 JD Fergusson Travel Prize is worth in the region of £3,000 to £4,000 and also offers the chance to exhibit.

It is aimed at artists looking to boost their career or take an inspirational break to develop personally and professionally.

Previous winners have travelled to the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Italy and the Antarctic before using their experiences to produce a fresh body of work.

Helen Smout, chief executive of Culture Perth and Kinross, said: “The JD Fergusson Arts Award Trust aims to encourage promising Scottish artists at a timely moment in their careers by giving an annual award.

“The 2018 Travel Prize is very much aimed at artists looking for the freedom to develop their ideas and travel to their chosen destination to research and develop their artwork.”

An example from the resulting body of work will be selected for inclusion in the Fergusson Gallery’s permanent collection in a gallery dedicated to the artist on Perth’s Tay Street.

The last Travel Prize winner was Jennifer Argo, a visual artist, illustrator, sculptor and graduate of Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, who received £4,000 to finance a two-month working trip to New Zealand.
