‘Cinderella’ crook leaves shoe at scene of crime.

Break-ins: Thief stole more than £8,000-worth of goods in raid

A hapless crook who stole more than £8,000 of goods from properties in Monifieth and Dundee left his trainer at the scene of one of his crimes.

Andrew Scott, 19, pleaded guilty at Dundee Sheriff Court yesterday to breaking into and stealing property from a house in Monifieth and a second house in Loganlee Terrace.

Sheriff Alastair Carmichael deferred sentence until November 6 for background and social work reports and released Scott on bail.

The owners of the Monifieth property, on Panmurefield Road, close to Monifieth High School, had been on holiday when Scott paid them a visit.

He smashed his way in through a patio window before helping himself to items, including a mobile phone, television, jewellery, cash and watches.

A laptop, aftershave and perfume, a wi-fi hub and an external hard drive were also taken in the raid.

Several of the rings were valued at £1,890 each and the total value of his haul was estimated to be worth more than £8,000.

None of the items, save the BT wi-fi hub, were recovered.

The property owners returned home to their turned-over house and found their back patio window smashed.

In the mess they found a training shoe that neither of them owned or recognised.

Scott also pleaded guilty to breaking into the second home on Loganlee Terrace, owned by a 76-year-old woman.

The pensioner had gone to bed for the evening when Scott let himself into her home, where he stole her purse containing £5. There was no sign of forced entry on the woman’s property.

He further pleaded guilty to breaking bail conditions imposed on him by Forfar Sheriff Court.

Defence solicitor John Boyle told the court Scott had committed the offences when he was 18 and that reports would be required prior to sentencing.

He said: “He has one analogous conviction. He is subject to bail conditions and he is complying with these. He lives at home with his mum.”
