College in running at SQA awards
A former pupil of Dundee High School, a Dundee and Angus College film festival and a college course leader have all been shortlisted for this year’s Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) Star Awards.
Elle Wyatt is in the running for the academic excellence award after achieving four Advanced Highers in her final year at school – including scoring 100% in her Advanced Higher maths exam.
College lecturer and course leader Sarah Ramminger, who oversees all of the institution’s sport and coaching courses, has been shortlisted for the SQA champion award after she introduced technological aspects to class work such as the use of ipads and drone-mounted cameras to track and analyse students’ performances.
The college itself is in with the chance to win the inclusion award for its international short film festival, which was devised by the college’s supported education team as a way of delivering SQA qualifications to students with learning disabilities.
Dr Janet Brown, SQA chief executive, congratulated Elle, Sarah and everyone at Dundee and Angus College.
She said: “The quality of the nominations for this year’s awards has been outstanding.
“We have seen first-hand the dedication and commitment shown by the candidates studying for SQA qualifications, and the passion and ingenuity of the teachers, lecturers and specialists delivering our courses.”
