Just Eat closer to swallowing rival
Just Eat’s proposed takeover of rival Hungryhouse has received provisional regulatory clearance.
The Competition and Market Authority’s move came after an independent panel probing the potential £240 million deal found little competition between the pair as Hungryhouse is far smaller and offers too few unique restaurants.
CMA inquiry chairman Martin Cave said: “We found that Hungryhouse was a weak competitor to Just Eat and so competition is unlikely to be substantially reduced by this merger, especially given the entry and rapid expansion of innovative suppliers in this sector.”
