Chances for Dundee clubs

-

Both Dundee teams are sitting comfortably in mid-table in the National League but they would hope to have been closer to leaders Western Wildcats, writes our women’s hockey correspondent.

They have opportunities tomorrow to maintain their current good form.

Grove Menzieshill had a good win over Edinburgh University, who sit second to Wildcats, and will surely rack up a few goals against GHK who are pointless after four games.

The task for Wanderers should be similarly straightforward when Kelburne visit Dalnacraig.

They bounced back from defeat by Wildcats to record a comprehensive victory over Grange.

Tomorrow is the last day of matches in Pools B and C of the Midland League Cup but Pool A, with an additional team, has two more rounds.

Pool C is the most straightforward with Madras having won both games so far and likely to run out winners against St Andrews University IV, who have lost both. Perthshire II and Stirling University II have one win.

Pool B is more problematic with Brechin and Blairgowrie having last week’s match outstanding. Both won their opening fixture and so the result of this could be crucial.

Perthshire III, with a win over Monarchs, could upset the odds by beating Brechin.

St Andrews University III and Grove Menzieshill III lead the way in Pool A with two wins apiece and, irrespective of tomorrow’s results, the deciding match could be the clash of these two on November 4.

The Scottish team are to play three games in Ireland on October 22, 24 and 25.

Coach Gordon Shepherd has selected a squad of 19 with a view to giving some players the chance to stake a claim.

There are four local players in the squad – Katie Robertson and Sarah Jamieson (Grove Menzieshill) and Emily Dark and Charlotte Watson (Dundee Wanderers).

Weekend fixtures include: Tomorrow: National League Division 1: Dundee Wanderers v Kelburne (3.30 DHS), GHK v Grove Menzieshill.

Division 2: Aberdeen Univ v St Andrews Univ, Borders Reivers v Dundee Univ.

Championship 2: Perthshire v Dundee Univ II, Grange EL II v St Andrews Univ II.

Midland League Cup, Pool A: Kinross II v Madras II, St Andrews Univ III v Wanderers II.

Pool B: Monarchs v Blairgowrie, Brechin Thistles v Perthshire III.

Pool C: Stirling Univ II v Perthshire II, St Andrews Univ IV v Madras I.
