Roddy Woomble

Idlewild frontman Roddy Woomble’s latest songs take him in a new direction.

Better known for folkrock balladry, Woomble’s latest solo album, The Deluder, has an experimental electro edge developed with his regular cohorts Andrew Wasylyk (bass), Lucci Rossi (keys) and Danny Grant (drums).

“I like a lot of German techno stuff on the Kompact label, and Kraftwerk,” he says.

“One record we were all listening to a lot while recording was Mccartney II, and the album was a lot of fun to make even if it sounds a bit melancholy.”

Woomble says his approach to writing solo is almost identical to methods he uses with Idlewild, who formed in Edinburgh in 1995, and a handful of classics will feature at Monday’s gig.

“We don’t do that many Idlewild songs now as there are plenty solo band songs to choose from,” he adds.

“Idlewild songs are good though and people like them.”
