Christmas lights appeal given £6,500 Common Good boost

-

The Arbroath Christmas lights appeal has been given a major boost.

Arbroath and District Community Council recently launched an online fundraiser to raise £12,000 for the event. It has now been given more than half that sum following a decision at an Angus Council meeting.

Councillors approved £6,500 for the traditional display, which will be paid through the Common Good Fund.

The council previously said it was unable to use its usual budget to pay for this year’s Christmas lights and hoped to share responsibility for such events with voluntary organisations.

A programme of events is planned to help raise the outstanding sum.
