Anglers at North Pond should be prepared
Some great sport is to be had at the moment, especially on the North Pond at Monikie, writes our angling correspondent.
A variety of lines and flies have been taking fish but some of the most successful patterns have been Dawson’s Olive; Black and Green Gold-heads; Purple Cormorants; Green Peter; Silver Invicta and Kate Mclarens.
There have also been reports of a few big fish breaking folks off in the weed; so be prepared.
Half-day sessions are still available for members until the end of the season at £10 per rod. Please book with the bailiff on 01382 370 300 during the normal times.
Forbes of Kingennie
Typical autumn weather ruled the week with anything from sunny skies and flat calm through to high winds and rain. Fish were caught on anything from small dries to lures.
The Boathouse Pool was more subdued but several anglers produced positive results.
Good numbers of fish were taken on Diawl Bachs and Cormorants as well as the usual buzzer patterns (black or dark green).
There were some decent rainbows caught in the Bankside Pool.
Green/black produced results as did Cat Bug variations. There were some great results on the Woodside Pool (any legal method).
The coarse pond (Blawearie Basin) continued to produce good numbers of roach and perch, caught mainly on maggots or sweetcorn.
Lake of Menteith
After 16 evenings on the Lake, Cameron Smith finished up top rod in the Cormorants Chase (AKA Lake young persons angling club).
In second place was Blane Lyon, with Zach Neufield third. Blane Lyon also picked up the Cormorant shield for top rod on the last day.
Thanks go to Alasdair Mair and his team of coaches for all the tips and supervision, as well as to all the drivers.
Numbers are looking good for next year but there is always room for more young enthusiasts.
Fly-tying classes start in Milngavie Ski Club shortly. For more information call Alisdair Mair on 07860 368472.
The lake is still fishing reasonably well and the plan is to stock 500 this week, and there are plenty more fish ready to stock after that too.
There isn’t much algae left at the lake these days and they have had further analyses from Robert Gordon University School of Pharmacy and Life Science which shows that there is no toxicity associated with the algae.
There are still boats available for the community fundraiser day for the kirk and school on November 5 (book through fishery).
Lochter Trout Fishery
With the mild weather of last week those who were willing to adapt or interpret what they saw happening on the water were doing particularly well.
A lot of double-figure results were recorded in the returns book.
The Halloween Pairs competition takes place on Sunday October 29. If you want to enter make sure you contact the bothy on 01651 872787 to secure your place.
