Friends to remember Montrose biker killed in Thailand.

Sadness: Tragic accident took the life of man originally from Montrose but who had latterly made the Asian country his home

- Rob Mclaren

An Angus man who died in a motorbike accident in Thailand will be remembered by friends in his home town this evening.

Steven Kerr was originally from Montrose, but had recently been based in Pattaya in the Southeast Asian country.

Mr Kerr, who was 32, died after his Yamaha Nmax bike collided with a lamppost last Friday morning. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

A report by Thai Visa News said the accident happened as Mr Kerr was heading towards Pattaya in the Sattahip district of Chonburi.

The bike was found in a central reservation, near the Pattaya Elephant Camp. Na Jomtien Police are investigating the crash.

Mr Kerr attended Montrose Academy. After leaving school in 2002, he embarked on offshore work and specialised as a cyber driller. He was employed by KCA Deutag and Seadrill.

It is understood he has a young family in Thailand, where his funeral was held yesterday.

A celebration of Steven’s life is to be held at the Hillside Hotel, just outside Montrose, tonight.

People have been encouraged to come and share stories and give him the “send-off he deserves”.

An online post said: “For friends and family closer to home, we have decided to organise a celebration of his life, which basically involves his friends having a drink and sharing some stories.

“People will be in the Hillside Hotel from 5pm onwards, so feel free to come along and give him the send-off he deserves.

“There’s no dress code and donations for his young family are welcome.”

Montrose and District councillor Bill Duff said his condolences went to the family.

He added: “It sounds like a tragic accident and my thoughts are with Mr Kerr’s family at this time.”

A spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: “Our staff have assisted the family of a British man following his death in Thailand.”
