Harbour-based firm strikes spine road deal with Kilmac
Family firm Harry Maiden Ltd has landed a major contract as the latest phase of the Montrose spine road project rolls out.
Main contractor Kilmac has struck a five-figure deal with the harbour-based company to supply and install steel fence posts and railing panels for the project.
The latest section of the road runs from Wharf Street to River Street. Following demolition work it will continue through to Caledonia Street, forming part of the £1 million Angus Council improvement scheme.
Director of the Dundee-based Kilmac group Richard Kilcullen said the link-up between his firm and the local authority would provide spin-off benefits for the Montrose community.
“As a Tayside firm ourselves we are eager to work closely with local businesses wherever possible and Harry Maiden Ltd has the expertise and experience we were looking for,” he added.
Chuck Roland, project manager with Harry Maiden, added: “We are delighted to be working with Kilmac on such a prestigious project here on our own doorstep.”
The Montrose steel fabrication and welding specialists can trace its roots back more than a century and now employs more than 20 staff.
Originally, the harbour-based business focused on horse shoeing and general blacksmithing but in recent decades it has been meeting demand from the oil and gas, construction and pharmaceutical sectors.
Gordon Maiden, managing director and a member of the family firm’s fifth generation, said: “We are among the oldest family businesses in Montrose and this eagerly awaited development will help regenerate the north side of the harbour for the benefit of both businesses and residents.”
The 52-week spine road scheme includes site clearance, drainage, road, kerb and footpath construction and street lighting.
