Murton Trust work enhanced
A new centre for rural skills will be created after the Forfarbased Murton Trust secured Angus LEADER funding for the project.
The group is planning to construct an all-weather educational space to serve as a hub that will bring together a network of trainers, businesses and individuals interested in traditional and rural skills.
Project leaders hope to build and fit out a multi-use cabin for the scheme over the winter and open the Murton Centre for Rural Skills next spring.
A programme of training, events and courses for all age groups will then be drawn up.
Organisers are also planning to create a network of interested parties who can help them promote and develop traditional skills training in Angus.
The final element of the project will be a series of public engagement events to promote rural skills, career options and the importance of protecting the natural heritage of Angus.
Alison Elliott, manager at Murton Trust, said she was extremely grateful for the LEADER funding.
Dougie Pond, chairman of Angus LEADER Local Action Group, said the move followed an independent rural skills report to the group in 2015.
“Part of the project’s appeal is Murton’s community focus, their willingness to work in partnership with others in Angus and their great track record in developing young people.”
