Unwritten can take Silver gold at Pontefract

RACING: Back Poet’s Voice colt to make an immediate impact at Listed level

- The Ferret

Karl Burke has enjoyed another excellent season peppered with Group One triumphs and while UNWRITTEN is not of that calibre yet, he can show he is one to watch next term with victory at Pontefract.

The Poet’s Voice colt will be having just his third outing as he lines up in the totepool ebfstallions.com Silver Tankard Stakes, but he can make an immediate impact at Listed level.

As a half-brother to a couple of Group-race performers on the Continent, it is no surprise Unwritten appears to have a bit of ability with only his inexperience seemingly hampering him when fourth on his debut at Hamilton in August.

He clearly learned plenty from that run, as he coasted home by nine lengths at this track last month, accelerating from a decent gallop to pull clear in impressive style.

Unwritten was still a bit green in the finish that day, hanging across the track a little, so it would be fair to say there was likely a bit left in the locker.

He tackles the same mile trip here and the probability of suitable cut in the ground is a definite favourable factor.

POSEIDON finally shed his maiden tag last time out and can kick on again in the Sky Bet Extra Places Every Day Handicap at Windsor.

The three-year-old made a late start to the campaign in June and after a couple of initial so-so efforts, he was given a break but returned better than ever in September, finishing second at Windsor before finally hitting the target earlier this month. While it was only a modest event, Poseidon showed plenty of fighting spirit and might be able to follow up, even off his increased mark.

Jamie Codd is an eye-catching jockey booking for DAKOTA CITY in the closing Ivor Laws Memorial Handicap and the hint should be taken.

Amateur rider heats are not usually great betting territory but given trainer Olly Murphy, a former assistant to Gordon Elliott, has gone to the trouble of booking an old ally, it suggests a big run is expected.
