Dods laments missed chances against Queens

Brechin: Glebe Park men must start taking opportunities

-

It was a case of what might have been once again for Brechin manager Darren Dods, as his men had plenty of pressure and chances against Queen of the South only to lose to a solitary goal.

Central defender Jason Kerr grabbed the Queens goal in 61 minutes, then was sent off, along with Brechin’s Ally Love, five minutes into added time.

Dods said: “We definitely deserved something. In the last 10 minutes they were camped in their own box and we had so much pressure. We had a string of corners but nothing would drop into the net for us.

“Isaac Layne had the best chance of the first half when he was one on one with the keeper, then at 1-0 their keeper made a great save. We have to take chances like that when they present themselves.

“I didn’t see what happened at the red cards as it was right on the other side of the pitch. I only know that their guy booted our dressing room door and that was disrespect to Brechin.

“We are much more secure defensively, but we just need that little break.

“In the first game of the season against Queens we were never at it, so the progress we have made is excellent. We must make the same kind of progress in the next 10 games.

“In so many games we have not had the rub of the green, but we must keep doing the same things and eventually our luck will turn. We are up against big, full-time clubs and we have not got the number of points we deserve.”

Brechin had the first chance on three minutes when a Sean Crighton header was cleared off the line by Jordan Marshall.

On 30 minutes, home keeper Graeme Smith made a super save from a Lyndon Dykes volley.

Five minutes later, Layne was clean through on Alan Martin, but sidefooted the ball wide.

Queens broke the deadlock on 61 minutes. The home defence failed to deal with a corner and Kerr shot through a crowd of players.

It was nearly 2-0 on 83 minutes. A Stephen Dobbie shot was saved by Smith and Gary Fusco completed the clearance off the line.

In stoppage time, Kerr stopped Love from taking a throw-in as Brechin threw everything forward and the resulting flare-up saw both sent off.
