Strathie notch up 11 tries in biggest win of the season

Strathmore and Alloa remain firmly in the race for honours after both posted bonus point wins in BT Caledonia Division One on Saturday.

Second-placed Strathmore were rarely troubled against basement side Banff, dotting down five times in the first half to reach the interval with a 29-3 lead.

A dominant second half effort yielded six further tries as Strathie posted a 65-10 win, their biggest victory of the season, to remain hard on the heels of pacesetter­s Caithness, who beat Grangemout­h Stags 29-9 at Glensburgh.

Alloa maintained the gap at the top of the table with a bonus point 43-12 win over Harris at Elliot Road.

Harris drew a blank in the first period but bagged second half tries by Joe Abbott and John Brady, plus an Adam Wood conversion.

Glenrothes found tryscoring form to see off Aberdeen Wanderers 43-10 at Carleton Park.

A Chris Docherty double and one by Scott Morrison, all converted by Kain Duguid, saw the Fifers into a 21-5 lead at the break.

They competed the job with further touchdowns by Gavin Emerson, Aaron Campbell and Ross Hutchison, with Duguid booting the rest of the points.

Blairgowri­e stretched further ahead at the top of Division Two (Midlands) when they chalked up a century of points at home to Panmure.

Blair’s nearest challenger­s, Hillfoots, had a convincing 66-0 win at home to Madras and Carnoustie tightened their grip on third spot with a 17-7 win away to fourth-placed Stirling County Bridgehaug­h.

Madras chalked up a second win of the campaign when they beat Kirkcaldy seconds 31-25 and Falkirk seconds squeezed home 20-19 at Kinross.

Dundee University Medics and Waid share top spot in Division Three (Midlands) after bonus point wins over Crieff & Strathearn and Grangemout­h Stags seconds respective­ly.

Howe of Fife seconds leapfrogge­d Rosyth Sharks after taking the honours when the two clashed.

Arbroath were 68-12 winners at home to Stobswell, and Bannockbur­n beat Glenrothes Developmen­t XV 66-9.

Perthshire seconds returned from Bo’ness with a 27-0 win to their credit, and Hillfoots seconds got the better of Angus Developmen­t squad 57-36.
