Brown looking for fresh start at ground where it all began

Billy Brown returns to the club where his coaching career started nearly 30 years ago this afternoon.

And the veteran Cowdenbeath boss hopes that visiting Berwick Rangers will be a turning point for the Fifers.

Brown said: “It is back to where I started out alongside Jim Jefferies. Berwick were in a similar position to Cowdenbeath as they were bottom of the table and had been for some time.

“They recovered from that and went on to be promoted and have good seasons so it shows that teams can move back up the way.”

The Blue Brazil head to Shielfield looking to bounce back from a 3-0 defeat to leaders Stirling.

Brown added: “They were better than us, especially when it came to breaking up the pitch.

“I had thought Peterhead were the best team in the league but there is very little between them and Stirling.

“I have to give our players credit for how they competed in the game but the lack of goals in our side is extremely frustrating.”

With only three league goals from nine games, Brown is doing everything he can to create a cutting edge.

He said: “We have tried different players, combinations and formations but we are still not scoring. It is not up to just the strikers to score but no one else has chipped in recently either, apart from Harvey Swann who netted a late penalty at Clyde.

“After years of going the wrong way in the Scottish game the club needs a lift and if we could start scoring it could be a turning point in our season. It would be good to get in front and come out on the right side of a result.”

Goalkeeper Joe Mcgovern and defender Jamie Pyper remain out injured.
