Playhouse project appeals for more support as deadline looms
Montrose Playhouse Project’s crowdfunding campaign for its DIY SOS project has raised more than £8,000.
Tradesmen and DIY enthusiasts have volunteered to help the team strip the former swimming pool back to a shell before the renovations can start.
A crowdfunding campaign was launched to raise £15,000 to cover the costs of equipment, materials and health and safety gear.
David Paton, chairman of Montrose Playhouse Project, said: “We are now sitting at £8,300 after local shop Chique raised £622 by holding a two-day shopping event.
“We did have to reschedule our outdoor cinema event to February 17, so we are a little behind on our target due to that being the big fundraiser for the crowdfunding campaign, but we are still overwhelmed with the response.”
Mr Paton said people had until Saturday to donate any amount they can spare through the crowdfunder page, the website or by post.
“Once again we are hugely grateful to all for their support and we are very excited about getting the DIY SOS work started on November 18,” he added.
“We have so far had over 60 local people and tradesman sign up to help strip out the building and have had companies all pledge time and materials to us to get the job done.”
