Popular hotel goes on the market
One of Carnoustie’s most prominent landmarks, the Aboukir Hotel, has been put up for sale.
The owners say they have decided to sell so they can concentrate on other business interests and have set an asking price of £585,000.
The hotel features seven en-suite rooms overlooking the coastline and the North Sea, as well as a restaurant, lounge bar and beer garden.
Stuart Drysdale, associate director at Christie & Co’s office in Glasgow, said the looming Open golf championship next summer, and the growth in golf tourism, made the Aboukir an attractive prospect.
“This is a rare opportunity for a new operator to take on a well-established business, being sold as a going concern with full complement of staff, requiring very little capital expenditure,” he added.
“The local area boasts many of the top golf courses in the UK with Carnoustie, one of the toughest links courses in Scotland, hosting the British Open Golf Championship in the summer of 2018.
“This obviously brings a huge influx of tourists and golf enthusiasts to the town, and will give the new owners a real boost to start off their tenure.”
In 2012, the Aboukir won the Best Bar None Award for Angus, a national scheme aimed at promoting the responsible management and operation of licensed premises.
A bar extension and games room were added recently.
