Two decades of Loons concerts

-

Forfar Athletic’s longest running off-field success story is lining up a milestone anniversary this month.

For the past 20 years, a love of Scottish entertainment and a passion to support the Loons has proved the perfect combination for foot-tapping fans at the regular concerts which have raised many tens of thousands of pounds for the club.

Former Station Park director and well-known local musician Mike Mcewan dreamt up the Scottish Spectaculars as a way of boosting the club coffers and the latest will take to the stage of the town’s Reid Hall on Sunday November 19 at 7.15pm.

“The first was held on November 23 1997 with Billy Anderson and Angus Strathspey and Reel Society on the bill,” said Mike.

“Until 2004 they were held once a year, but since 2005 have been twice a year, in March and November.

“They have always proved very popular and for a lot of regulars it is something they really look forward to.”

Entertainer Eddie Rose will compere the latest show and the bill features popular Angus accordionist Steven Carcary, Kirriemuir fiddler Gillian Ramsay, Malcolm Ross, Perth bandleader Jim Lindsay, singer/ guitarist Callum Wallace and the Sandra Wright Dancers from Glamis.

Tickets are available from Small’s in Castle Street, Forfar, or from Mike Mcewan on 01307 818765.
