Stars need luck with injuries, says Mimar

ice hockey: Dundee steeled for challenge

Dundee Stars marksman Marc-olivier Mimar yesterday said he had never been involved in a team with so many injuries.

However, the Canadian said the Stars found a way to secure a confidenceboosting penalty shots home win over Elite League pacesetters Manchester Storm on Saturday.

The 25-year-old hopes the team can take that fighting spirit into tomorrow’s clash at Sheffield Steelers (7.30pm).

Reigning play-off champions Steelers have 19 points from 16 league fixtures and lie fourth, while second-bottom Dundee have nine from 11 outings.

The Yorkshire club are looking to bounce back after being edged 3-2 at league champions Cardiff Devils on Saturday.

Mimar was Saturday’s hero slotting the game-winning penalty shot in the sixth round.

And the right-wing, who is in his first season in British ice hockey, believes Stars need an action replay if they want to earn anything at Sheffield.

He revealed: “We got together before the game and said we really needed the points.

“Everybody was focused and everybody stepped-up.

“We did what we needed to do. “I’ve never been in a team with so many injuries, and injuries are part of the game but we need a little more luck there,” he said.

“Now we need to get in shape for our next game.”

Meanwhile, Fife Flyers head coach Todd Dutiuame has stressed to his players the need to work harder during a power play.

It misfired in Saturday’s home defeat to Belfast Giants and Dutiaume said: “A power play is not two minutes of a break.

“You have to work harder and you have to penetrate their box, and our guys were certainly not willing to do that for 40 minutes on Saturday.”

Fife’s next opponents at Rosslyn Street are Dundee on Saturday (7.15pm).

His squad then visit Coventry Blaze on Sunday (5.15pm).

Both games are in the Elite league.
