Downfield lose out as St Andrews take points

-

St Andrews had a 3-0 Premier League win over Downfield at Barnetts Park. Daryl Falconer, Scott Lawrie and Ross Cunningham scored.

Thornton Hibs had a 2-1 win at Glenrothes.

In the North League, Forfar Albion boss Mark Campbell celebrated his first win since taking over with a 3-1 triumph at Newburgh.

While admitting his side did ride their luck at times, it was no more than they deserved for their terrific work ethic.

Albion were two up at the break thanks to goals from brothers Brad and Connor Airlie.

Newburgh reduced the leeway courtesy of a Matt Woods penalty.

David Cargill added Albion’s third to seal only the visitors’ second win of the season.

Meanwhile at the top of the table, Scone Thistle brought Lochore Welfare’s five-match winning streak to an end with a fine 4-1 win at Central Park.

But they had to come from behind after James Adam’s ninth-minute opener with goals from Andrew Mckenzie and Arran Mckay putting them ahead at the break.

Ross Mitchell and Ben Moffat accounted for their second-half goals.

Violet regained second place with an 8-0 home success over Arbroath Vics. The visitors suffered an early blow with keeper Arran Lyall going off injured after just five minutes.

Outfield coach Dave Sturrock replaced him.

They went in at halftime a goal down, only for the floodgates to open up after the interval.

Violet’s marksmen were Craig Batchelor and Gavin Thomson, both with doubles, and singles from Bradie Heggie, Conner Coupe, Ben Middleton and Ryan Menzies.
