Prime livestock goes under the hammer

United Auctions in Stirling sold 5,211 prime sheep including 3,912 lambs, selling to an average of 165.5ppk, and 1,299 ewes and rams.

Lambs (3,912) – Doune Farms (Tex) £102; Luckenburn (Btex) £101; Wester Middleton (Suff) £88; South Flanders (Char) £87; Easter Bucklyvie (X) £85; Pathcondie (Mule) £78; Garvald Mains (Chev/mule) £75. Hill of Errol (BF) £70.

Ewes (1,299) – Hill of Errol (Tex) £142; Old Nursery (BFL) £102; Hangingsha­w (Suff) £86; Garvald Mains (Chev/mule) £85.50; Radernie (Mule) £72.50; Coates (BF) £46.

Rams – Fleurs (Suff) £114; Hillhead (BFL) £103; Fleurs (Tex) £98.

Caledonian Marts Ltd, Stirling, sold 202 cattle comprising 105 prime bullocks, heifers and young bulls, six OTM cattle, and 91 cast cows and bulls. Bullocks averaged 226p; Heifers averaged 220p; OTM cattle averaged 180p; young bulls averaged 196p; beef cows averaged 114p; and dairy cows averaged 96p.

Bullocks topped at 248ppkg for a Limousin from Learielaw, Broxburn and to £1,719 for a British Blue from Classlochi­e, Kinross.

Heifers topped at 255ppkg, again from Learielaw, and to £1,660 for a Limousin from Brockwoodl­ees. OTM cattle sold to 215p for a Limousin from Dyke, Milton of Campsie, and to £1c596 from Learielaw. Young bulls to 220ppkg for a Limousin from Upper Spittalton, Thornhill, and to £1,597 for the same animal.

Heifers – 250p Brockwoodl­ees; 248p Learielaw; 242p Knockhouse & Upper Kinneil; 240p Dyke; 238p Croftgarry, Faskine & Pirnhall.

Also forward were 91 cast cows and bulls. Beef cows averaged 114p selling to 180p for a Limousin from Learielaw and to £1,240 from the same home.

Dairy cows averaged 96p selling to 123.5p from Stenhouse, Kirkcaldy, and to £880 from the same home.

176p Learielaw; 175.5p Ledrishbeg; 163p Taylorton. Dairy cows – 122.5p Broompark; 122p Stenhouse. Also forward were 30 beef and dairy calves. Top price of the day was £290 for a Limousin bull calf from Wester Ochtermuth­ill.
