Quest kicks off to find top achievers in sport
The search is on for the stars of 2017 to celebrate the success of teams and individuals from across the Angus sporting spectrum.
Nomination forms for the Angus Alive Sports Awards 2017 have now been released, with organisers confident the county will once again prove it punches above its weight in the sporting arena.
The awards feature nine categories and submissions will be judged by an independent panel ahead of the awards ceremony in March.
As well as aiming for glory in the individual categories, contenders will be aiming to follow Catriona Steele on to the roll of honour as the Angus sports personality of the year.
Edzell mum Catriona’s worldbeating taekwondo success took her to the top accolade and she has continued to take her involvement in the sport to the next level, achieving two gold medals at the Taekwondo ITF World Cup in Budapest.
Previous award winners have included champions in swimming, athletics, basketball and football through to local volunteers, coaches and officials.
Many of those honoured at previous awards ceremonies have gone on to enjoy worldwide success, competing at Commonwealth and Olympic level.
The award categories are: club volunteer of the year, coach of the year, outstanding commitment award, sports personality of the year for people with a disability, school sports volunteer of the year, young sports personality of the year, club of the year, team of the year and sports personality of the year.
To be eligible for an award the nominee must have involvement in a sport recognised by sportscotland.
A series of local roadshows have been held since the nominations officially opened to highlight the event and encourage entries, with a closing date of January 5.
Nomination forms are available online at www.angusalive.scot/sportsawards and from libraries, museums and sports centres.
Angus Alive sports development officer Lisa Houston said: “Each year the awards have continued to raise the profile of sporting champions, from those who compete and achieve individual success to those who support promising talent and enable valuable opportunities across Angus.”
