TOP CLASH BEATEN BY WEATHER The postponement of the match at Fintry Park between Douglas Athletic and the current Scottish Amateur Cup holders Colville Park because of a frozen pitch was Saturday’s big let down, writes our Amateurs correspondent.

But at least there were some positive outcomes elsewhere.

Top of that list was Lowson United’s 3-2 victory over Finnieston Park of the Glasgow and District SM League. Down 1-0 and 2-1, the Forfar side were tenacious in their efforts and the deficits were retrieved thanks to Dale Miller and a Scott Fullerton penalty. Then Fullerton had a second bite from the spot to win it with 15 to go and he made the best of it. Menzieshill AFC also flew the Midland’s flag against a west coast side, winning 4-2 against Inverclyde with an outstanding second-half performance. Michael Cavin, Sean Tucker, Lee Roeleveld and Owen Neave were their match winners.

St James had a tough away tie as well, taking on Bo’ness Cadora of the Stirling and District Association. A brace from Robbie Norrie secured a deserved 2-1 win for the visitors.

On the bleak side and on an equally bleak day, an own goal in the 75th minute saw Merpro exit at the hands of Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers by 2-1, while neighbours AHSFP were taught a lesson in clinical finishing, losing out 3-0 at home to Leven United.

Finavon also found themselves in difficulties against Glasgow Harp, exiting by 4-0.

It appeared to be an even worse day for the travelling Morgan Academy FPS with the shock that Dynamo East Kilbride’s pitch was unplayable.

The good news was an alternative playable park was found in a flash at nearby Hamilton.

The bad news was the FPS lost out 3-2 to the accomplished Glasgow Premier League side.

Two Premier League matches took place, both ending in the unusual 5-5 scoreline.

The added on time of nine and five minutes, respectively, was a bone of contention to the sides that were ahead as both equalisers came with a last kick. Portcullis had held a three-goal lead against Broughty United on three occasions, but faltered at the end.

Craig Nicoll (2), Stuart Ramsay, Malcolm Deacon and Liam Hewitt had put them in the driving seat. But Port could not hold on for the nine minutes added on. United’s response came via Marc Mcguire (2), Andy Melville, Callum Faulkner and an own goal. Carnoustie Panmure YM held all the cards in their game with Tayside Fire Brigade thanks to strikes from Thomas Law (3), Fraser Sturrock and Barry Mann.

But like Portcullis they were caught out at the death.

Back to Broughty whose wee team lifted the Lunan Trophy at Craigie 3G on Saturday.

They beat Newport 4-2 in an end to end final with Liam Barrie (2), Mark Hutton and Steven Howie winning it for them.
