Disgust at dumping of traffic barriers and cones at beauty spot
ARBROATH: Councillor hits out at ‘mindless morons’ after vandalism at Keptie Pond
“Mindless morons” who dumped traffic barriers and cones at an Arbroath beauty spot have been blasted for their actions.
The items were strewn across the surface of Keptie Pond in the second such incident in two weeks.
David Fairweather, an independent member for the Arbroath West and Letham ward, said: “There’s a new path being installed at part of the pond, that’s why the barriers and cones were there.
“Tayside Contracts put up the temporary measures and this is the second week running I’ve seen it happen.
“The previous Sunday, the barriers were chucked into the pond and it’s happened again.
“The Friends of Keptie Pond volunteers do a fantastic job in keeping the place looking nice and tidy, picking up litter, things like that.
“It’s obviously just mindless morons with nothing better to do with their time than vandalise things.
“The job that has been done by Tayside Contracts is fantastic.
“If anyone has information about who has done this and is concerned about getting in touch with the police, they can contact me and I will take it forward on their behalf.”
Derek Wann, Conservative councillor for the Arbroath East and Lunan ward, said he hoped the incidents were isolated.
He said: “This time it seems the staff doing the job had left the stuff stacked up over the weekend to be picked up, and it’s in that time it’s happened. I’m presuming it’s kids.
“With the pond being icy, that poses its own dangers if people are messing about.
“Keptie Pond is a splendid tourist attraction and the overwhelming majority of people enjoy it responsibly.”
A spokesman for Angus Council said: “The barriers had been in place during resurfacing work to the pathway at the pond which is now almost complete.
“As with any kind of vandalism, this antisocial behaviour is not welcome and we would urge anyone who witnesses such incidents to report them immediately to the police.”
