Forfar Sheriff Court heard he had a “very positive” social work report but “some relatives had gone by the wayside” and were leading him astray.

His defence solicitor said he had “no recollection of the incident” but was now living independently.

Simpson was fined £300, which was reduced from £400 for his guilty plea.

Also appearing at court was Darren Pratt, 44, of Chalmers Street, Arbroath,

He admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner to a social worker on April 10 at the town’s East Abbey Street.

Sentence was deferred to January 18 to give him a chance to prove he can be of good behaviour after finding a job.
