Pre-orders for new whisky blend outstripping availability
An Arbroath man’s whisky company is challenging the concept of blended whisky with a fusion of Scottish and Indian malts – and pre-orders have already outnumbered availability.
Fusion Whisky has released E&K Whisky, which follows on from The Glover series – a blend of Scottish and rare Japanese whisky from the Hanyu distillery.
The company, co-founded by Robert Gordon University visiting lecturer Jim Millar, has said the latest limited edition drink was made from a blend of Scotch whisky from Ardmore and Glenrothes distilleries, and malt whisky from Amrut Distillery in Bangalore, India.
Mr Millar said: “Scotland’s distilling expertise and heritage is world renowned and rightly so. We’re able to pair these exceptional Scottish whiskies with younger drams from other countries, which have a different production style and different climate or terroir. By blending them, we are creating something utterly unique and utterly brilliant.
“We’ve had the support of Scottish Development International, whose assistance meant we could really drive these new brands.
“We’re excited about the releases that will follow up the E&K, and think whisky consumers will be too.”
Only 825 bottles of the E&K will be available through select specialist retailers, priced around £135.
The carefully guarded recipe was created by Alex Bruce, master blender and managing director of Adelphi Distillery in Fife. He said: “When you marry Scotch whisky matured in a different climate you can create some exciting and rewarding flavours.”
