Why not revive the old King’s Theatre?

-

Sir,– Possibly the biggest eyesore in the city of Dundee is the old King’s Theatre in the Cowgate, opposite the Wellgate Centre.

This is a magnificent building which has been neglected for many years and does not look good in the remodernised centre of Dundee.

I see that Perth has just reopened their theatre, the refurbishment costing approximately £16 million, and it is receiving many plaudits.

Can Dundee not do likewise and restore the King’s to its former glory, thereby attracting the top shows and entertainment to the city? I’m sure that sponsorship, lottery and other grants could help with fundraising for this purpose. If Perth can do it, surely Dundee can?

Another area I would like the powers that be to look at is the Dundee Law. As the panoramic views from the Law are magnificent, could a feasibility study be carried out to see if it is possible to have a cable car built to take locals, visitors, elderly etc, to the summit to experience these wonderful views?

I’m sure the influx of visitors anticipated in the near future with the opening of the V&A Museum would welcome this facility if it were ever to become available.

Dundee is a lovely city in a beautiful setting so let’s make the most of it. Raymond L Nicoll. 22e Hill Street, Monifieth.
