Hat-trick hero Shayne Stockton yesterday said the Boxing Day hammering of Edinburgh Capitals proved Fife Flyers were back on track.

The 28-year-old American also believes Friday’s shock defeat at Dundee Stars was only a “bump in the road”.

In-form Guildford Flames visit Rosslyn Street on Saturday in the Elite League (face-off 7.15pm).

The former College of the Holy Cross forward can’t wait for the next challenge.

Stockton opened the scoring after four minutes and claimed his two other goals inside the first four minutes of the middle session.

In all, six Fife players netted in the 10-1 rout of the Elite League bottom markers.

Fife are seventh in the table with 32 points from 23 games, and Stockton said: “We got right back on track and came out hot.

“Things were going our way and we kept pushing.”

It was 3-0 after the first session and 8-1 after the second.

Stockton added: “Our job was to stay focused and not get into bad habits.

“We played like we want to play and everybody chipped in, which was important.”

Reflecting on the 4-2 defeat at Dundee, he said: “We have been playing really good hockey.

“Dundee was a bump in the road but we will learn from it.”

It was not a happy return to the Storm Shelter for Omar Pacha as Dundee Stars lost 4-0, with former Braehead Clan star Matt Beca netting a treble.

Pacha was coach to Storm last season and he will now have to lift his men ahead of Sunday’s trip to Braehead Clan (face-off 2pm).
