Approval for Monikie wigwams
A proposal for a glamping site in Monikie has been given conditional approval by Angus Council.
Woodland owner and applicant Graham Carter made the application for 20 wigwam cabins at Denfind Plantation.
Mr Carter said the site has been under a commercial crop of timber for the last 50 years or more and the footprint of the development is minimal in comparison to the overall site.
The 20 tents would be official Wigwam-branded units placed at the south of the village, next to the country park, which receives more than 150,000 visitors each year.
The idea been under consideration for three years.
It will sit within existing spruce woodland, with maintenance or felling planned for beech and sycamore trees at the entrance on to Panmure Road.
The Woodland Trust previously objected and said erecting wigwams on the site along with associated vehicular access, areas of hard standing and soakaways, would all result in direct loss of ancient woodland.
Planning officials said: “The proposed development would provide new tourist accommodation in a manner that complies with relevant policies of the development plan, subject to the stated conditions. The impact on the natural environment, including habitats and species of conservation value would not be unacceptable.”
