Dundee United could have up to three new faces in the squad for tomorrow’s Championship game against Falkirk.

Tannadice boss Csaba Laszlo bolstered his injuryhit roster on Wednesday with the addition of former Kilmarnock midfielder Craig Slater on loan from Colchester United.

He is now close to making two other captures, understood to be Danish front man Emil Lyng and English defender Brandon Mason.

The former is an imposing, 6ft 3in 28-year-old striker who has played for a host of clubs including Lille and Lausanne and most recently a side in Iceland, while the latter is a 20-year-old Watford full-back.

Laszlo was keeping his cards close to his chest over the possible double signing but he was happy to speak of his delight at confirming the capture of Slater.

The manager said: “Craig has a lot of experience from playing with Kilmarnock and also for the Scotland Under-21s.

“With losing Fraser Fyvie and Scott Fraser, we had to be active in the transfer market. Craig is a good footballer and I think he will fit into the way we want to play here.

“I spoke to Craig and from the first conversation, I could tell he was committed to come to Dundee United. He is someone I think who can definitely add something we are looking for to the team.

“Paul Quinn will also be staying until the end of the season.”

Laszlo also revealed that Paul Mcmullan has been disciplined after being sent off against Brechin.

The winger had already picked up a caution when he was shown a second yellow card for diving.

The manager admitted he was keen that the player learned from his mistake.

He added: “The punishment isn’t the thing with Paul, learning the lesson is more important than the money involved.

“It has been handled internally. I have spoken with Paul and he accepts it. I don’t want to punish players, I want them to learn lessons.

“Paul is an intelligent person and the important thing for me is he learns that what he did wasn’t the best thing to do in that situation.

“Hopefully it will never happen again. “Everyone was punished because for the next two matches he won’t be available.

“He has been in a good position with the team but for the next few games he has thrown it away.”
