Coach is enjoying life with ‘fantastic’ Flyers

- Nigel duncan

Fife Flyers playcaller Todd Dutiaume said the season so far has proved one of the most enjoyable periods in his time with the Kirkcaldy club.

He says the Flyers have a “fantastic” hockey team this season, and hopes their passionate fans can help Britain’s oldest professional hockey club to silverware this term.

This weekend Fife go backto-back against Braehead Clan, with the first game at Kirkcaldy tomorrow.

The return is at Braehead on Sunday.

Fife are on a high having climbed to fourth in the Elite League after Wednesday’s 6-2 victory over former pacesetters Manchester Storm.

They have powered up the table thanks to five straight wins which sees them on 38 points from 26 league games, having won 16 of them in regulation and three in overtime.

Clan, in contrast, have had mixed fortunes and were edged 3-2 after penalty shots at secondbottom Dundee Stars in Tayside on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Dundee Stars have confirmed Maggie’s as the club’s official charity partner.

Maggie’s have a centre in the grounds of the city’s Ninewells Hospital and provide free practical, emotional and social support for people with cancer and their families and friends.

Stars will hold a charity coffee morning at Dundee Ice Arena on Saturday January 27, and a charity game on February 18 against Fife Flyers when volunteers will conduct a bucket collection.

Limited-edition Maggie’s jerseys designed by local artists and centre users are being auctioned off at the end of the first period.

Stars players and fans will team up with members of Maggie’s to take on the Scottish Assault Course in Errol.

On the ice, Cady Carlson is expected to arrive in time for this weekend’s double-header with Edinburgh Capitals, with the first game at Dundee tomorrow.

Tuesday’s overtime win over Braehead has been a huge lift and coach Omar Pacha is determined to extend the club’s four-game winning run at home in the league against the Murrayfield men, who have only won three of their league games so far this term.

Capitals, have welcomed the arrival of Canadian netminder Tyler Beskorowany, who will replace current netminder Pavel Shegalo as the club’s starter.
